hello there

I know it seems like I'm never on this space anymore. And that's true, I guess, only it's mostly because I've been busy. It's been with one thing and another and another ... All of it good stuff, really, just it seems my days are getting away from me – and the weeks and the months, too. But here's a glimpse of what I've been up to lately.

First off, a quick note – better late than never!! I'll be going up to Portland tomorrow for the Buckman Art Show + Sell. If you're in the area, come by. It's for a great cause – Buckman Elementary is an arts magnet school – and this is a wonderful way to support it!

Last weekend, I held my first ever printing workshop here in the studio. I offered it on both Saturday and Sunday for 2.5 hours and I think it was a great success! I had 5 people for each day, which seemed like just the right number. I only remembered to take photos on the second day; here are a few now. I went over some basics – parts of the press, how to design for letterpress with photopolymer plates ... but I knew that mostly people were itching to print! I put out a selection of plates that I used for my 2009 calendar – just the background textures – for people to mix and match. I also had a plate made up for the back of each card – a photo of that later ... We picked two colors and each person got to print 12 cards to take home.

I really enjoyed watching people print for the first time. It's a wonderful thing to watch their delight in the process ... and it renewed for me why I love what I do!

More photos and news on the wedding line coming sometime soon, I promise. I'll try to make it back here sooner rather than later.

Glad to hear the workshops were fun and inspiring! I spoke to a number of friends who expressed interest. Will you be scheduling more?

Hope we can meet up soon! We're headed to PDX to see Molly (Orangette) at Powell's tonight. Maybe we can go to Buckman tomorrow and see you! :)

I love watching my students pull a print for the first time. They're just so enamored with the process. It always makes me think of why I started printing in the first place.
