Yesterday I printed some little thank you cards to include in all my orders. I really like these cuties, and it's just a simple and sweet way to say thank you. I chose one of my favorite color combinations – ochre and slate – and a few designs from the Satsuma Press Perpetual Calendar. I also printed up some sweet 'made with love' gift tags in cranberry and slate. I actually made these for myself, but liked them so much that I am offering in my online shops right now. I think they're perfect for any home made gift. I plan to use them for cookie boxes – the buckwheat butter cookies are made; the brown butter for the oatmeal cookies is made too! – but could see using them for lots of other things, too.
I am going to close the online shops (here and here) for a short break from December 22nd til January 3rd so please order soon if you'd like anything. There are only two 2010 calendars left, but lots of other goodies. Oh! I'm contemplating making a change with my online shops in the new year. It's always sort of bothered me that I can't change my etsy shop name – it's satsumalynn because I set it up before I started selling, and I'd really rather it was satsumapress, naturally ... And I've been having fun working on other non-letterpress goods – felt wreaths, knitting, packaging supplies, etc – and so I thought maybe I'd turn my etsy shop into a place for these and keep my big cartel shop as pure letterpress. If I do this, I'd expand my big cartel shop to include everything current. Your thoughts?

They are so pretty - love the little 'made with love' tags
What beautiful little cards! I agree - a lovely way to say thank you.
I don't have an Etsy shop, so I don't know the ways in which it works (or doesn't) for the seller. But in my opinion, go ahead with the separation of your non-letterpress goods from pure letterpress stuff. It'll give customers a guide as to which site to visit to see and buy the things they want. And do include everything current in your bigcartel shop - the more the better. :)
Do a quick analysis of which shops are bringing in which kind of orders. You will be able to determine which kind of customer you are reaching through each shop and ensure your range matches this audience accordingly. Also, you could consider the metadata/search terms that bring up your page on Etsy and Big Cartel browsers and ensure the terms are well matched to the product offer/brand you've got in each shop. Always keep the range up to date. Also consider having two shops on each site (eg. Satsuma Press as one shop and Lynn's Other Stuff as another). You could stock each with separate ranges and ensure you create a separate set of search terms and supporting marketing plans. That way you're not missing potential purchasers just because they happen to start browsing on one site or the other. All the best with it!
Love the little 'made with love' cards - I already ordered some and can't wait to get them! I've never ordered from big cartel, but I would definitely check it out if it was the only way to buy letterpress from you....
sounds like a nice idea (the separate shops) and your fans have some nice ideas too.
whatever you decide to do, just make sure you let folks know you have another shop on bigcartel and etsy so they know to check it out too. i dont always look at the other shops offered by a seller i'm looking at, but sometimes i'll check it out just in case i'm missing out.
