summer social
Just a very quick note to say that while I myself cannot be at the Summer Social tomorrow, Abby has kindly agreed to have my stationery and prints there anyway. The selection is a little haphazard, understandably, but it's the stationery I had in stock and ready to go, plus a few prints, including the newest one titled Falling. There will be lots of talented ladies there; I hope you go and I'm sorry to miss it.

cancellation
A quick note to say that I cannot be at the Summer Social Sale this coming weekend. I don't want to go into many details – one of our best friends was killed by a drunk driver on Saturday. I expect I won't be here on this space much for some time to come, but I know you all will understand. I'll catch up with you another time.

bridges at em-space

I am going to have a piece up at the opening show for Em-Space in Portland this coming weekend. I really wish that I could attend, but it's daVinci days here in Corvallis and I think Liam will really enjoy going to check that out – more so than an art opening, right? In any case, Em-Space sounds like an amazing new book arts center (and it happens to be in a building managed by my good friend) and so I hope I'll get up to visit it soon.

The opening art show is called Bridges. My piece is titled FALLING – a very loose interpretation of the bridges theme ... I was thinking of the seasons and the changes between each. It's a combination of some of the artwork I've drawn for the 2010 calendar so it's a sort of sneak peek of what's to come.

I thought I would post a few photos of the stages for this print. It is a small run of 51, printed on Somerset Textured, four colors: pale grey, ochre, silver sage and dark grey. Each 10" x 12" print is hand numbered on the front. I am really happy with it; it's a very peaceful print and complements the Maple Leaves piece I drew and printed for the Let Her Press show at Office a few years ago.

Numbers 1-3 will be at Em-Space; the rest I will sell directly at shows and through my online shops. I don't have the prints posted yet, but if you're interested, please just email me at lynn@satsumapress.com. I'm going to wait to put the prints in my shops til the show opens. If you're in Portland, please stop by Em-Space on July 18th between 6-9 to see the print in person + the artwork of many others.
summer social

I'll be at the Summer Social on July 25th with a group of lovely ladies. Won't you stop by if you're in Portland, too?

blanca's cards

Last week I reprinted some business cards for Blanca who makes the loveliest jewelry. Her cards are a little narrower than a standard business card, with rounded corners. They have a clean, simple design which speaks for itself and which reflects the beauty of her own work. I redrew the flower graphic for her, but the type layout was Blanca's design.

lovely nelly

Look at this lovely new font I just bought! I got both the Nelly Script Flourish and the slightly plainer Nelly Script and hope to be able to use it for some wedding invitations soon enough. I think it is really lovely, definitely fancy, but paired with a simpler font I think it is going to be put to good use. Click on the image above to see it larger ...
Speaking of wedding line, I forgot to mention that the winners for the Style Me Pretty Giveaway were posted on Monday, right here.

sunday adventure
Yesterday we went on an adventure! We went to Mary's Peak, where we hadn't been yet. We've been in Corvallis a year now, but last summer was pretty hectic so we're trying to take time to explore the area now. At 4097 feet, Mary's Peak is the highest point in Oregon's Coast Range.
You can drive most of the way up and then walk (or in Liam's case, roll) up the 1.5 mile gravel trail to the very top. It's not terribly steep, but it's far from flat and there are lots of bumps and deep gravel spots along the way. I think it's pretty wonderful that Liam's Snappie is tough enough to go on this trail – and that my boy is such an amazing driver that he handle it so well. I really don't think there are many power chairs out there that could handle this terrain – and I think that is such a shame. People of all ages who use power chairs don't want to just be on paved concrete all the time – who would?
We had a picnic at the top: mini ravioli with homemade pesto, raspberry buttermilk cake (I used half the sugar required and I thought it was still a tiny bit too sweet) and cherries picked from my sister-in-law's trees.
I was so impressed with Liam's driving skills on the way back down. Well, I was impressed from a distance because he was going at full speed with a trail of dust behind him and Ben running alongside. Not a single crash, not a single error. Seriously, he is five years old - I am pretty used to him in his Snappie since he was only 20 months old when we first got it, but sometimes – like yesterday – I really see how remarkable Liam and his Snappie both are. Really.
